UniverCity Connections introduces The Urban Cache la Poudre River – The Cache la Poudre River is the lifeblood of northern Colorado, providing not only for plants and animals but adding to the area’s rich history and thriving recreational offerings. As of June, the Poudre River’s treasures can now fit in the palm of your hand. UniverCity Connections, the grassroots, volunteer-driven initiative of the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado that works to connect the Colorado State University campus, Downtown and the Poudre River, has created The Urban Cache la Poudre River, a pocket-size interpretive map and guide that highlights recreation, fishing, history, trails and wildlife throughout the river’s urban corridor. The Urban Cache la Poudre River is at the Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Development Authority, Downtown Business Association, Beet Street and the Fort Collins Convention and Visitors Bureau. Call 488-1985.

Fort Collins’ newest salon and spa opens – Three local Fort Collins’ women, Janae Yakel, Valerie Venter and Michelle Venter, opened Crazy Beautiful Salon and Spa at Drake and Shields in hopes of creating a fun yet classy atmosphere for men and women of all ages. Call 484-0130.

Healthier dining out can now be easier – A new Web site ventures to help the community learn how to make healthier choices when dining out. 142 Bis Designs offers on-site design services – The ideal Sunday, according to Old Town Wine & Spirits owner Ben Ubl, consists of Ben surveying his vineyard at sunset seated on his sun-warmed stone terrace… slippers at feet, good book in arms reach, wine goblet of fine red in hand… Take a walk past his storefront at 214 S. College Ave., and you’ll notice the window display is, in fact, Ben Ubl’s vision for his perfect Sunday. EsScentuals’ owner Meg DeWeese, along with local mixed-media artist Caterina Giglio, captured Ubl’s vision of his perfect Sunday. DeWeese and Giglio’s new company, 142 Bis Designs, offers window dressing and on-site design services to the public and strives to extend to the community what EsScentuals has long been known for: intriguing window displays and creative interior décor. Giglio brings to the mix her talents with the brush and faux finishings as evidence by the work she did throughout the lower level Sanctuary at EsScentuals, which is located at 142 S. College Ave. Call 484-7862.
